The relationship between hypothyroidism and PCOS
A problem many suffer from is polycystic ovaries with an underactive thyroid.
Both problems occur together due to high estrogen levels, which is why men rarely suffer from an underactive thyroid.
When the level of external estrogen increases, whether from foods containing (xenoestrogens) like fast food, or birth control pills, estrogen levels begin to rise, and the result is the failure of eggs to be released from the ovary, even if the menstrual cycle is regular.
Therefore, women notice severe pain before and during their period at that time.
The medical reason:
The chemical similarity in the composition of estrogen and thyroid hormone (thyroxine) makes the receptors busy with estrogen, leaving thyroxine.
Also, the carrier for thyroxine hormone from the gland is protein, and with the increase in female hormones, the protein itself begins to carry estrogen instead of thyroxine.
Therefore, many who take thyroxine pills often notice:
- No weight loss
- Feeling lethargic
This leads some to increase the dose without benefit.
And when blood tests are performed at that time, a decrease in thyroxine hormone is noticed due to the receptors being occupied by estrogen hormone.
Medical and nutritional solutions:
Avoid processed foods because they contain xenoestrogens.
Avoid gluten found in wheat and its products to lower antibodies.
Maintain HbA1c by eating low-glycemic foods.
To reduce premenstrual symptoms, evening primrose can be used.
Eat leafy greens such as arugula, lettuce, and parsley.
Avoid meat, milk, and their derivatives 5 days a week.
