Talbina and its benefits

“Talbina” is mentioned in authentic hadiths, including:

Ibn Majah narrated from Aisha that she said: Whenever one of the family members of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) became ill, he would order barley soup to be made. Then he would order them to sip some of it and say: “It soothes the heart of the sad and eases the heart of the sick, just as one of you removes dirt from her face with water.” It is narrated from Aisha, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), that he recommended treating oneself with it, saying: “Talbina soothes the heart of the sick and removes sadness.”

On the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, that she used to order the preparation of Talbina for the sick and those grieving over the death of a loved one. She used to say: I heard the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, say: “Talbina soothes the heart of the sick and takes away some of the grief.”

Al-Nawawi said: “Majammah” (also called “Mujamma”) means: it soothes the heart, relieves worry, and invigorates it. Muslims believe that treatment with “talbina” helps prevent heart and circulatory diseases, as it protects the arteries from hardening - especially the coronary arteries - and thus protects against angina pain, symptoms of ischemia, and myocardial infarction. As for those already suffering from these vascular and heart conditions, “talbina” contributes, with its extremely important health benefits, to reducing the exacerbation of their condition. This is what the Prophet Muhammad meant when he said: “Talbina soothes the heart of the sick,” meaning: it comforts the heart of the sick.
